The CSPA is dedicated to providing the highest standards of practice in the profession of mental performance consulting.
The CSPA’s Code of Ethics and Use of Terms and Title guidelines include principles and standards by which CSPA members must abide.
This declaration serves as a written commitment to adhere to the CSPA Code of Ethics and Use of Terms and Title guidelines. The CSPA advocates for the use of appropriate terms and title (i.e., Certified Mental Performance Consultant) and expects members who meets CSPA membership criteria to utilize and refer to this well-known, accepted title in the sport domain. CSPA members must strive to unambiguously and lawfully represent themselves and the profession.
The CSPA also expects members to abide by the Code of Ethics, which encompasses principles and standards that:
• Are intended to guide and support members in acting responsibly and ethically in the provision of services to ensure the dignity and welfare of clients (e.g., individuals, teams, organizations) and the general public.
• Reflect expectations of conduct and practical recommendations that can lead to professional and legal ramifications when violated.
• Apply to ethical supervision in which CSPA professional members serve as supervisors and CSPA student and apprentice members render services under their supervision.
• Are not exhaustive and the fact that a conduct is not addressed by the principles and standards does not mean it does not have ethical implications. Members should consult the process of ethical decision-making in the Code of Ethics to guide their conduct.
It is the individual responsibility of each CSPA member to act in accordance, and not violate, the ethical principles and standards described in this Code of Ethics. When applicable, CSPA members who are dually trained and are providing services as licensed/registered mental health practitioners (i.e., psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers) must abide by their regulatory body’s code of ethics (i.e., national or provincial/territorial associations/colleges).
